Karnataka Tourism Forum

Karnataka Tourism Forum (KTF) is a registered non-profit organisation comprising tourism professionals and companies that are dedicated to make a meaningful contribution to improve tourism in Karnataka. KTF was founded in 2001 by a few keen stakeholders in tourism businesses that were eager to collectively take initiatives to improve tourism in the State. Now, in its rejuvenated avatar, KTF is a structured and proactive force that has taken upon itself to bring a radical change to tourism at large by way of global approach and dynamic endeavours.

Karnataka has a multitude of potential tourism attractions that remain relatively untapped. KTF has a mission to bring all of them to light; invite and support focused development efforts by private and public enterprise and eventually deliver quality visitor experience to the traveller. The evolved vision is to thereby make Karnataka India’s No. 1 destination.

The Forum supports and works with the State and Central Government and its efforts have ranged from creating awareness to being an advisory body, suggesting and assisting policy formulation. ‘KTF Speak’, a platform that brings tourism achievers up-close with KTF Members, is an event that is looked forward to with much enthusiasm each month. KTF is working towards uniting all stakeholders to become the voice and face of tourism in Karnataka to ultimately create and market a product that is internationally competitive.

Tough times don’t last, tough guys do.

The tourism industry appears to be in a spot of trouble, promoted by the global economic downturn and the terror attacks closer home. But, these are passing clouds…

I am delighted that KTF members are not camped alongside the ‘gloom and doom’ prophets multiplying across the horizon. By nature, our members are positive, forward-looking, pro-active… an incurably optimistic and inspired bunch, I confess.

We have good reason for optimism. IPK International’s Asian Travel Monitor forecasts +15% growth for India in 2008. We have a large pool to fish from. 2007 recorded 903 million international arrivals with receipts of US$ 1.0 trillion, ie almost US$ 3.0 billion a day.
By 2010, according to UNWTO, arrivals will cross 1.0 billion growing to 1.6 billion by 2020.

The domestic market itself is attractive: in 2006 over 8.3 million Indians went outbound of which 17% were from Bangalore! On an average, Indians spend US$ 822 per overseas holiday.

There is huge energy amongst KTF members and a massive membership drive is on. Many events are planned. Karnataka Tourism also is led by the dynamic Tourism & Infrastructure Minister Mr Janardhana Reddy, Tourism Principal Secretary Mr Jyothi Ramalingam and Tourism Director Mr Viswanatha Reddy.

The leadership at KTF with Vice President Loveleen, Secretary Titus and Treasurer Chandran, supported by a core committee of dedicated members are in the process of re-evaluating and finalizing our Vision Document as well as Perspective Plans.

Good times are ahead. Let us all join hands to reach greater heights together. Let us make Karnataka a role model for tourism and India’s most desirable destination.
